Gathering Objective Evidence for your Cleaning Process

An introduction to SIR testing.
–Zach Papiez

Q: What is considered a failing SIR value?
A: Technically, 8 Log Ohms is considered a failing SIR value, but the meaning behind the resistance value is largely process and board specific
Q: Why is SIR tested at 5V as opposed to a much larger voltage?
A: The 5V more closely mirrors the operating voltage of most electronics today and it also allows for shorting dendrites to be detected much easier
Q: Why is the site-specific nature of SIR so important?
A: Board failures occur on a site-specific basis, not always due to issues concerning the whole board. This is especially important for cleaning processes where you must clean for the most difficult components
