Troubleshooting Your Aqueous Parts Washer

Tips and Tricks
–Kevin Buckner

Q: Can KYZEN offer onsite assistance with troubleshooting issues with cleaners and chemistry?

A: Yes. Remember, we do chemistry but know where to get the answers for almost all the cleaning equipment. We know who to call if it becomes an equipment issue.

Q: Cost is always a concern when it comes to my cleaners. What is a typical concentration you should run to be effective for your cleaning process?

A: We know people who run between 6% and 8%, or 15 % to 18%. The biggest thing that I can stress is that we hedge our bets. We want to run at the lowest possible range of chemistry, but still get clean; that’s the most important part.

Q: Can you help with my system’s automated concentration measurement or control?

A: Yes. The nice thing about those systems is that you’re eliminating the human element. If you’re trying to run at 7% and have somebody manually adding chemistry, it’s very easy to undershoot or overshoot how much chemistry they’re adding into your system. That can cause other issues, especially if they underfill. Suppose it is placed in one of our CSE-type systems whenever water flows into the machine. In that case, the CSE automatically draws chemistry to mix with it at the desired concentration and puts it into your equipment.

Q: Do you work with specific cleaning machine companies? I have five different brands in play at my facility.

A: Absolutely. A piece of cleaning equipment is either belt-driven or open-door, so you put your parts on the belt or inside the washer, the wash cycle turns on, the rinse cycle turns on, and the dryer does what it’s supposed to do. You then take your part out, and hopefully it’s clean. So it doesn’t matter to us what type of equipment you have. We will be able to figure it out.
