Vacuum Degreasing: Solvent Maintenance

Why is maintenance necessary?”
–Beth Bivins

Q: Why is 0.01N NaOH used in the acid test kit?

A: A lot of water has a low ph (4-5). So the NaOH is being used to bring the ph of the water up to neutral

Q: How often should acid testing be performed?

A: It depends. We recommend twice a week when you first start up the machine. Ongoing, once a week or every two weeks, as long as everything is stable and there is no acid.

Q: I don’t use chlorinated oils. Should I still test for acidity?

A: Yes, since it is a closed system and the solvent is continually distilled, there could be other things going on.

Q: If I need to apply a Corrosion Preventative product, how long will it protect my parts? And how do I know the optimal % to use?

A: Up to 90 days on an optimal percentage of about 7%. It could depend on how the products are packaged or the environment they’re stored in.

Q: How often should I test for % CP?

A: Once every couple of days it should be good, because the machine over time will dilute the CP tank.
